Dedicated to giving Autistic Children the chance to play sports in a safe, non judgmental environment. Thanks to UVU and their partnership and our awesome sponsors.
ALOHA!
My name is Kylee Wunder. I play defense on my team- Northern Peaks soccer club in Cedar Hills. My twin brothers, Ethan and Jaron, love soccer too, but at the age of two years old they were diagnosed with Autism. Because of their autism, it’s hard to find camps and leagues for them to attend.
We were lucky to find the Handstand for Goals Camp in Salt Lake that my brothers have attended since 2013. This camp was started by a family and is supported by many SLC club teams, as well as the East High School soccer team. More than 250 autistic kids have been able to enjoy soccer as a result of this camp, including my twin brothers. It has made such a difference in my family that I started one here in Utah County to help other families and children with Autism.
We started the Moving Mountains soccer camp in 2016, and the first one went really well. We were featured in the news if you want to read about it. We had about 40 autistic campers attend, and over 100 volunteers our first year, and our numbers have continued to rise each year. UVU has agreed to help sponsor us, as well as Vivint and many other local businesses.
We would love for your help in this amazing opportunity. We need around 150 volunteers, and would really appreciate it if you would help volunteer.
Most of us know someone with autism, or probably have someone with autism in our school classes. The opportunity to be with an autistic child for this camp will not only help the camper have an opportunity they wouldn’t get anywhere else, but will also help us be more understanding of Autism and others around us with it. The volunteer assignments are not hard - we ask kids to simply run around and play with the campers, ages 3-10.
